Mohamed Youssef to remain Al Ahly sporting director amid poor results
Mohamed Youssef will continue in his role as sporting director of Al Ahly Club, despite widespread reports suggesting he had resigned from his position.
The clarification came directly from Mahmoud El Khatib, the club president, following a disappointing result for the first team in the Egyptian Premier League.
Al Ahly suffered a 2-1 defeat to Tala’ea El Gaish SC at the Military Academy Stadium, a match that had been postponed from the fifteenth round of the league.
The loss has fueled speculation about internal changes within the club’s management structure, but El Khatib was quick to dismiss claims of Youssef’s resignation.
“Mohamed Youssef has not submitted any resignation from his role as sporting director, and all recent reports on this matter are completely false,” El Khatib stated.
“Youssef continues to carry out his responsibilities fully, overseeing the youth sector, academies, and women’s football, in addition to managing operations related to the Delphi club.”
The president further explained that Youssef’s focus has shifted away from the first team since the appointment of Yves Torop as technical director.
“For some time now, Youssef has been removed from direct involvement with the first team, allowing him to concentrate on the other important projects and responsibilities assigned to him,” El Khatib added.
With the league setback behind them, Al Ahly are now preparing for a crucial CAF Champions League quarterfinal encounter against ES Tunis.
The club will look to regroup and leverage Youssef’s guidance across the broader organizational structure as they aim to maintain their domestic and continental ambitions.
