Patrice Evra slams Walcott for calling Arsenal capable of beating United’s legendary 2007/08 team
Patrice Evra has taken aim at former Arsenal forward Theo Walcott, labeling him a “menace” after the pundit suggested this season’s Arsenal squad could challenge Manchester United’s iconic 2007/08 team.
That United side, led by Evra and Wayne Rooney, famously captured both the Premier League and Champions League titles, cementing their place in English football history.
Speaking to Stake, the Senegal-born defender did not hold back in criticizing Walcott’s comments, emphasizing the enduring strength of that United squad.
“I think Wayne Rooney was being really nice to Theo Walcott, even if he said Man United 07/08 would smash this Arsenal team,” Evra said. He insisted that such remarks, coming from someone with a public platform, could mislead young fans.
“Walcott is a good friend, I love him, but saying those kinds of comments shows he’s a menace on TV. He should stop doing punditry, this is dangerous for the kids, saying things like this.”
Evra recalled specific moments that underscore the dominance of the 2007/08 side, highlighting their defensive resilience and consistency.
“Even in the FA Cup in 2008, we beat Arsenal with eight defensive players. Our team is the GOAT of the Premier League, don’t compare them to this Arsenal team,” he added, leaving little room for debate over United’s supremacy that season.
The former left-back’s criticism extended to the tone and recklessness of Walcott’s assessment.
“Walcott was probably drunk when he compared them, if he wasn’t, then he’s dangerous for society,” Evra said, blending humor with sharp censure. His remarks underline a broader concern about former players using media appearances to make sensational claims rather than grounded analysis.
