Marumo Gallants set to appoint Jamil Benouahi as head coach following Alexandre Lafitte suspension

Moroccan tactician, Jamil Benouahi is reported to be on the verge of taking over as head coach of Marumo Gallants, replacing Alexandre Lafitte until the end of the 2025–26 season.

The decision comes as Marumo Gallants look to arrest a slump that saw them drop to 14th place in the Betway Premiership. The club recently secured a morale-boosting 3-1 home win over Chippa United, overturning an early deficit and marking their first league victory since last October.

Club management sees the coaching change as a necessary step to consolidate this upward momentum. Lafitte, who had been suspended last Monday, was reportedly removed due to breaches of his contract following a run of seven consecutive defeats across all competitions.

Benouahi, 46, was recently spotted in the stands during the Chippa United victory alongside club chairman Abram Sello, signaling that formal discussions regarding his appointment are well underway.

The Moroccan coach’s deal is expected to be finalized over the weekend, with the contract likely extending until the end of the current campaign. His arrival is aimed at stabilizing the team, instilling confidence, and ensuring Marumo Gallants build on their first win in months.

With the team showing signs of a revival, Benouahi faces the immediate challenge of turning the club’s fortunes around and guiding them away from the relegation zone. His experience and tactical acumen will be crucial in reshaping the squad and improving performance in the remaining fixtures of the season.
