Trabzonspor say Manchester United fee makes Onana deal “impossible”
Trabzonspor have ruled out the possibility of signing goalkeeper André Onana on a permanent deal after revealing that Manchester United are demanding between €45m and €50m for the player.
The disclosure was made by Trabzonspor vice-president Zeyyat Kafkas, who confirmed that talks had taken place between the Turkish club and the Premier League side regarding the Cameroonian international’s future.
Kafkas told Complete Sports that Manchester United are seeking a fee close to the amount they originally paid for the goalkeeper in 2023, leaving the Turkish side unable to continue negotiations.
“The price offered by Manchester United for the purchase of André Onana was in the range of 45 to 50 million euros,” the executive stated.
According to the Trabzonspor official, the financial realities facing the Süper Lig club make such a deal unrealistic.
While discussions were held in an attempt to explore the possibility of a permanent transfer, the asking price has effectively ended those hopes.
“Our president has sincerely informed the club of the realities of Trabzonspor,” adds Kafkas, meaning that such amounts are inaccessible to the Black Sea club, making the move “impossible” in its current form.
The situation leaves the goalkeeper’s future away from Trabzonspor uncertain, despite the club having held talks about retaining him.
Manchester United’s valuation means that only clubs capable of meeting the Premier League side’s financial demands are likely to pursue a deal.
Kafkas also stressed that the circumstances surrounding the negotiations have not caused concern for the player himself.
The Trabzonspor vice-president said the Cameroon international remains focused on continuing his career at a competitive level in European football.
The player’s ambition, according to Kafkas, is “to continue playing for a club in Europe, if not in England.”
That stance suggests the goalkeeper’s time with Trabzonspor may have been only a temporary stage in his career.
With Manchester United holding firm on their valuation, a return to Old Trafford or a move to another major European club now appears the most plausible outcome for the former Inter Milan goalkeeper.
