Amir Abdou pays tribute to Brama Traoré as new Burkina Faso coach
Amir Abdou has paid tribute to Brama Traoré after taking over as head coach of Burkina Faso’s national football team.
The new Stallions coach formally congratulated Traoré on Thursday, recognising his contributions to the team.
“Believe me, it’s not easy to work in your own country, I’ve experienced it. I wanted to congratulate him and wish him all the best for his future projects,” Abdou told the media.
Abdou inherits a team with high expectations from fans and officials alike.
The Burkinabe sports authorities have outlined five objectives for the new coach, reflecting the ambition to elevate the national team’s performance in upcoming competitions.
The Mauritanian coach, who has experience managing at both club and national level, acknowledged the challenge ahead. He emphasised his commitment to developing the Stallions and building on the foundation established by Traoré.
“Taking charge of a national team comes with responsibilities,” Abdou said. “There is a lot of work to be done, and I am determined to meet the expectations of the football community in Burkina Faso.”
His appointment marks a new chapter for the Stallions, with Abdou tasked with implementing strategies to improve the team’s competitiveness in regional and continental tournaments.
While acknowledging the pressures of his role, Abdou stressed the importance of continuity and respect for his predecessor’s efforts. “I wanted to recognise the work that Brama Traoré has done and build upon it,” he added.
