Mahamadou Sangare explains decision to leave PSG for Manchester City
Mahamadou Sangare, who turns 19 soon, has opened up on why he walked away from Paris Saint-Germain last summer despite being offered a professional contract.
In an interview with Onze Mondial, he revealed that he rejected PSG’s offer to join Manchester City instead. “The project proposed by PSG wasn’t clear. I preferred to leave,” he said. “We didn’t agree on certain points.”
Sangare explained that after thinking it through, he decided he needed a pathway that genuinely offered him minutes with the first team.
“I didn’t want guarantees, but at least I wanted a chance,” he noted. “From what they were saying, I understood that I wasn’t going to get any minutes. So, I didn’t want to sign my professional contract with PSG.” For him, the risk of leaving his boyhood club was worth it if it meant a better chance to grow at senior level.
Life at Manchester City, however, has not yet matched his expectations. Sangare trains occasionally with the first team and feels he does well, but admits: “For now, things aren’t going as planned. I’d like to get some minutes with the pros, but I’m training hard to achieve my goals.” His choice is now under even more scrutiny as PSG continue to promote young talents like Ibrahim Mbaye under Luis Enrique, highlighting the fine margins young players face when betting on their futures.
