Bayern Munich are working on a deal to sign Portuguese-born defender of Guinea-Bissau descent, Daniel Banjaqui, in the next summer transfer window.

The Bavarian giants are said to be exploring options to reinforce the right side of their defence, with Sky reporting that the 17-year-old from SL Benfica has emerged as a potential target.

Banjaqui, who stands at 1.84 metres, is regarded as one of Portugal’s promising defensive prospects. Despite his young age, the right back is known for his strong physical presence and is already a Portuguese youth international. He remains under contract with Benfica until June 2027.

According to the report, Bayern view him as a long-term development project with significant upside. The club’s internal squad planning is also believed to be shaping their interest. Givairo Read had previously been linked with the German champions, but concerns over injuries are said to have tempered enthusiasm.

In addition, the future of Konrad Laimer could influence Bayern’s recruitment strategy. Depending on how the situation around the 27-year-old evolves, investing in a young right-sided defender such as Banjaqui may become increasingly appealing.

It remains unclear whether Bayern will move beyond initial interest and enter formal negotiations. What is certain, however, is that the Bundesliga powerhouse is actively surveying the market in search of fresh options for the flank.
