Nuno Espirito Santo highlights Premier League chaos as Tottenham near relegation

Tottenham Hotspur’s alarming slump continued on Sunday as defeat to Fulham extended their winless streak to match the longest in Premier League history, leaving one of England’s most storied clubs precariously close to the relegation zone.

The result has intensified scrutiny over Antonio Conte’s side, now sitting 16th with 29 points – just two clear of 17th-placed Nottingham Forest and four ahead of West Ham United, who occupy the final relegation spot.

West Ham’s own struggles compounded the drama on Monday as they fell 2-0 to Liverpool, leaving David Moyes’ side firmly entangled in the fight for survival. With just a few matches remaining, the margins are razor-thin, and the Premier League’s unpredictable nature has become painfully evident.

Speaking ahead of West Ham’s next fixture, manager Nuno Espirito Santo provided a candid assessment of the situation facing clubs at the bottom.

“I watch all the games in the Premier League. We are focused on ourselves though. We didn’t achieve a result in our game and that’s what we have to focus on, it’s what is really important for us,” Nuno said.

He highlighted the broader competitiveness of England’s top flight, noting that even teams competing in European competitions are not immune to relegation battles.

“It shows how competitive and difficult the Premier League is for all of the teams. It is the best league in the world, where the best players are, so everything is possible in the Premier League.”

The statistical outlook underscores the precariousness of the situation. According to OPTA, West Ham have just a 29.52% chance of survival, while Nottingham Forest sit slightly lower at 23.94%.

Tottenham, despite their current slide, are considered unlikely to suffer a first-ever Premier League relegation, with a probability of just 4.5%. Yet with so little separating the teams at the bottom and form proving mercurial, every point in the remaining fixtures could prove decisive.
