Ipswich Town sign English-Ivorian Kellyan Olawole to first professional contract
Teenage defender Kellyan Olawole has signed his first professional contract with Ipswich Town, committing his future to the club until 2028.
The 17-year-old centre-back confirmed the news on his Instagram account, marking a significant milestone just months after joining the Suffolk side from Everton.
His new deal runs for two and a half years, underlining the club’s confidence in his development and potential.
“Proud to sign my first professional contract .”
Olawole arrived at Portman Road last summer and quickly made an impression within the academy set-up.
During his first season, he played a role in the youth side’s run to the last 16 of the FA Youth Cup, highlighting his steady progress at youth level.
Born in Salford, the young defender has been noted for his composed performances and modern approach to defending.
Despite his age, he has demonstrated maturity in his reading of the game and comfort on the ball, attributes that have contributed to his rise within the academy ranks.
Ipswich’s decision to offer professional terms reflects a long-term vision centred on nurturing emerging talent.
By securing Olawole on an extended deal, the club aims to integrate him further into its development pathway and provide a platform for continued growth.
Before his move to Ipswich and his time at Everton, Olawole also spent part of his formative years within the academy system at Liverpool, gaining experience in competitive youth environments.
Internationally, he is eligible to represent England, France, Ivory Coast and Togo. However, he has expressed a clear ambition to one day play for the Elephants, signalling his desire to represent Ivory Coast at senior level.
For now, the focus remains on his progression at Ipswich, where the club believes he can continue to develop into a key defensive prospect for the future.
