Yahya Jabrane urges Moroccan FA: “Keeping Regragui is in Morocco’s best interest”
Former Wydad AC captain Yahya Jabrane has urged the Moroccan FA to retain coach Walid Regragui as the team gears up for the 2026 World Cup tournament to be staged in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Regragui, who led the Morocco to a historic semifinal finish at the 2022 Qatar World Cup, faced disappointment last January after losing the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title to Senegal in a fiercely contested final at the Prince Moulay Stadium.
Initial reports suggested that the Moroccan FA had severed ties with Regragui after the Atlas Lions fell short in the AFCON final. The Federation, however, promptly dismissed such claims, affirming the enterprising tactician remains in charge of the national team.
Speaking to Emirates Today, Jabrane, who currently plays for Ajman Club, praised Regragui’s leadership and emphasized the importance of continuity ahead of the World Cup.
“Regragui is one of the great coaches who have contributed a lot to Moroccan football,” Jabrane said. “Keeping Regragui is in Morocco’s best interest, and he can repeat the achievement that was accomplished in the 2022 Qatar World Cup by finishing fourth.”
“I support Regragui until death, and I am ready to serve my national team at any time,” he added, signaling both loyalty and commitment to Morocco’s cause.
With Regragui’s position now reaffirmed and key players like Jabrane offering their backing, the Atlas Lions appear focused on regrouping and building momentum ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
