Ibrahim Gusau reaffirms Nigeria's support as Gianni Infantino celebrates 10 years at FIFA helm

The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, has pledged Nigeria’s continued loyalty and partnership to FIFA as Gianni Infantino marks a decade in charge of world football.

In a congratulatory message to the FIFA President, Gusau praised Infantino’s leadership over the past ten years, describing it as transformative for the global game and particularly impactful for Africa.

“My dear President Gianni Infantino, I want to use this opportunity on behalf of football stakeholders in Nigeria to congratulate you on your 10 years anniversary in charge of global football,” Gusau stated.

He emphasized that the last decade has ushered in significant structural and developmental changes across the football landscape.

“These 10 years have brought a lot of transformation into the football sector globally,” he said.

Gusau further reaffirmed Nigeria’s alignment with FIFA’s broader vision, particularly highlighting the governing body’s growing focus on Africa.

“We are therefore proud to be part of you and we are reassuring that we will continue to be part of you because we know your ambition, we know your mission and we know you are going to do more, especially for Africa and Nigeria.”

The NFF President assured continued backing from Nigeria as FIFA pursues further reforms and development initiatives.

“Therefore, we want to assure you we are going to continue to support you and we are going to continue to be with you so that you continue to bring more.”

Infantino, who assumed office in 2016, has overseen major reforms including the expansion of global competitions, enhanced development funding for Member Associations, and increased investment in infrastructure and grassroots football through programmes such as FIFA Forward.

As Infantino marks his 10th anniversary in office, tributes from football administrators worldwide continue to underline his influence on the modern game.
