Crystal Palace receive timely lift as Cheick Doucouré resumes training
Cheick Doucouré has resumed training with Crystal Palace, raising hopes of a long-awaited return to Premier League action after more than a year on the sidelines.
The Malian international has not featured in a competitive match since 18 January 2025, when Palace secured a 2-0 victory over West Ham United.
Since then, injury setbacks have kept the midfielder out of action, including a relapse that prolonged his absence.
Doucouré’s latest return to first-team training signals progress in what has been a challenging period. The 26-year-old had already endured a serious knee injury in 2023, suffering torn cruciate ligaments that ruled him out for a year.
He made his comeback at the beginning of the following season, only to face further frustration when fitness issues resurfaced in January 2025.
Now back among the senior squad, Doucouré appears to be nearing full recovery. His presence in training is a significant development for Palace as they look to strengthen their midfield options. Known for his energy and defensive discipline, he has been an important figure since joining the club from French side RC Lens.
The midfielder’s potential return will also be welcomed by the Mali national team, for whom he has been a regular presence when fit.
After a lengthy rehabilitation process, Doucouré’s comeback would mark the end of a difficult chapter in his career.
While no official date has been set for his competitive return, his reintegration into team training suggests that a place on the pitch may not be far away. For Palace and Mali alike, his recovery represents a timely boost.
