Egyptian defender Hossam Abdel-Maguid addresses Al Ahly transfer speculation amid contract uncertainty

Hossam Abdel-Maguid has spoken out following growing speculation linking him with a potential move to rivals Al Ahly once his contract with Zamalek expires.

The defender remains under contract with Zamalek until the end of next season and has been part of the club’s first team setup since 2019. However, discussions surrounding his future have intensified amid reports suggesting a possible switch to the Cairo giants.

Clarifying the situation, Islam Abdel-Magid, the player’s brother and agent, addressed the matter during an interview with ON Sport. He stated, “Until this moment, there is no agreement to renew with the club.

Under the current circumstances, the time is not right to renew the contract, as the management is focusing on the team, and the player is focused on joining the national team.”

He further indicated that the door remains open for continuity at the club, adding, “If the contract renewal file is opened in the appropriate manner, we would welcome being at Zamalek.”

According to his agent, the defender’s priorities extend beyond financial considerations.

“The player does not have large financial demands. He wants to renew his contract on the condition that he plays professionally abroad. Everything must go through the club because this is his home,” he explained.

Emphasising the player’s ambitions, he continued, “Hossam is determined to play professionally, and he is looking for it all the time. He wants to play professionally in one of the European leagues.”

Interest from Europe appears genuine, with three offers reportedly on the table, including proposals from Ferencvárosi TC and BSC Young Boys.

When asked about the possibility of joining another Egyptian club, the agent downplayed the rumours.

“Any outstanding player is followed by Al-Ahly, Zamalek, and Pyramids, and this does not harm the player in any way, but Hossam is looking to play professionally abroad, and after that, Zamalek.”

He concluded by stressing that no official offers have been received from clubs within the Egyptian league so far, reinforcing that the defender’s immediate focus remains on securing a move to Europe before considering any domestic alternatives.
