Moroccan talent Ismaël Baouf attracts interest from French clubs
Ismaël Baouf is emerging as one of the most sought-after young defenders in European football ahead of the upcoming transfer window.
The 20-year-old Charleroi-born player has impressed at SC Cambuur Leeuwarden in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie, the Netherlands’ second tier.
His performances this season have attracted the attention of French clubs AS Saint-Étienne and LOSC Lille, according to transfermarket reports.
Under contract with Cambuur until 2028, Baouf’s market value has risen sharply following his contributions to Morocco’s junior team triumph at the U20 World Cup.
In the 2025–26 season, he has played 19 matches across all competitions, scoring six goals and providing one assist, an impressive tally for a defender.
Baouf’s development has been shaped through training at several Belgian clubs. He began at Olympic Charleroi before moving to RSC Charleroi (2016–2022) and later joining RSC Anderlecht for the 2022–23 season.
He transferred to the Dutch side during the summer of 2025, where he quickly established himself as a key player.
The Moroccan international, nicknamed an “Atlas Lion,” has shown versatility and composure at the back, earning recognition for both his defensive solidity and his contributions in attack.
His blend of youth and experience in competitive leagues has made him a standout prospect for clubs looking to strengthen their defensive options.
With interest from Ligue 1 sides mounting, the upcoming transfer window could be a defining moment in Baouf’s career as he seeks to continue his rapid rise in European football.
