Orlando Pirates midfielder Sihle Nduli ruled out of season due to injury
Orlando Pirates have been dealt a huge blow with midfielder Sihle Nduli ruled out of the remainder of the season due to a serious foot injury.
The midfielder underwent successful surgery in December, having sustained the injury during Pirates’ clash against Golden Arrows in November.
Despite hopes of a possible return, local reports indicate that Nduli’s recovery timeline will rule him out for the remainder of the campaign.
His absence is a significant setback for the Buccaneers, particularly after the influential role he played earlier in the season. Nduli was instrumental in steering the Sea Robbers to silverware, contributing to their triumphs in the MTN8 and Carling Cup competitions.
The 30-year-old only joined Pirates at the start of the current campaign from Stellenbosch FC and quickly established himself as a key figure in midfield with his composure, work rate and tactical intelligence.
In his absence, experienced campaigner Makhehleni Mkhaula has stepped in to marshal the midfield. Pirates, however, remain well-stocked in that department, boasting quality options such as Thalente Mbatha, Masindi Nemtajela and Sipho Mbule — all capable of rising to the occasion when called upon.
Nduli will notably miss this weekend’s highly anticipated Soweto Derby, a fixture that promises fireworks and intense rivalry. His absence will be felt, but Pirates will hope their midfield depth can carry them through as they push to finish the season strongly.
