Franco-Senegalese coach Habib Beye ready to deal with high-pressure Marseille job
Franco-Senegalese tactician Habib Beye says he is braced for the pressure as he takes over the Marseille coaching job.
The French giants confirmed Beye as their new manager on Wednesday, replacing Italian gaffer Roberto De Zerbi.
Beye faces an immediate and demanding challenge. Marseille’s objectives for the remainder of the season are clear: secure a place in the UEFA Champions League and lift the Coupe de France.
Time, however, is not on his side, as he gears up for his first game in the French Ligue 1 against Brest on Friday.
The move marks Beye’s return to the club, having featured for the French outfit between 2003 and 2007 as a defender and club captain.
“I’ve built myself over time, I gained my first experience in the third division,” said Beye at his first press conference as Marseille manager attended by Get French Football News. “I took the time to take each step as it came, I don’t have anything to prove to anyone. I’m here because I worked hard.”
“I am ready, I don’t consider that the team is sick. It’s a question of form. There is a high quality of work being done here. Of course it’s another step in my career and I have to step up to it, but I have no problem with that. I feel ready for the pressure. Don’t come here if you don’t want to be exposed to that pressure.”
The French Ligue 1 giants currently sit fourth on the league standings after 22 matches into the campaign.
