Cameroonian forward Karl Etta Eyong and Levante at odds over Russian move
Spanish outfit, Levante are reportedly unhappy with Cameroonian forward Karl Etta Eyong following his decision to turn down a lucrative transfer to CSKA Moscow.
The Russian giants had tabled an offer in excess of €30 million for the 22-year-old striker, a proposal that appealed strongly to Levante’s hierarchy.
However, Etta Eyong is understood to have flatly refused the move, making it clear he has no interest in joining the Russian side at this stage of his career.
The decision has reportedly caused tension within the club, with Levante’s management frustrated by the player’s stance. In response, the Spanish outfit is said to have dropped Etta Eyong from the squad for Wednesday’s postponed La Liga Matchday 16 fixture against Villarreal, a move widely interpreted as a disciplinary signal.
Despite the standoff, the striker has enjoyed an impressive campaign in Spain, registering six goals and three assists in La Liga so far this season. His form has not gone unnoticed, with several European heavyweights closely monitoring his situation.
Clubs such as FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Arsenal, Fulham and Everton are all believed to be tracking the Cameroonian’s progress, which could explain his reluctance to commit to a move outside Europe’s top leagues.
It remains to be seen whether Levante’s hardline approach will force a change of heart or if Etta Eyong will hold firm, banking on interest from Europe’s elite to shape the next step of his career.
