Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique has moved to calm fears around Ousmane Dembele’s fitness after the winger limped off during the first half of the Champions League clash with Monaco.
Dembele, who has already endured several fitness problems this season, asked to be substituted after taking a knock early in the game, raising fresh concerns at a decisive stage of the campaign.
Enrique stressed that he would never knowingly jeopardise the Frenchman’s health and underlined that Dembele had shown no issues in training beforehand.
He explained: “That’s football, we try to manage each player individually. I didn’t take any risks; he trained normally yesterday. We’ll have to see the tests tomorrow to know the exact injury because he took a knock during the first 15 minutes. We’re trying to manage it in the best way possible.”
The club will now await medical examinations to determine how long Dembele might be sidelined and whether he can feature in the upcoming fixtures that could define PSG’s season.
Given his importance in attack, any extended absence would be a major blow as the Champions League and domestic battles intensify.
