Regulations expert Amer Al-Amaira has explained what punishment Al Ahly are expected to face after crowd trouble in their CAF Champions League clash with Morocco’s AS FAR.
The match ended 0-0 in Cairo in the final round of the group stage but was marred by serious incidents inside and outside the stadium.
Al-Amaira said in a radio interview that Al Ahly are not at risk of an immediate crowd ban in the knockout rounds of the Champions League. He stressed that the expected sanction will be limited to a financial fine imposed on the Egyptian club.
He added that this was considered the first incident of its kind from Ahly fans in this competition, which should lead to a lighter punishment, while warning that repeat offences would likely trigger a stadium ban for supporters. According to him, the most probable decision is a two‑match crowd suspension with the punishment suspended, alongside the fine, in line with current regulations.
CAF has already strongly condemned the events during the Ahly–AS FAR game.
In an official statement, the confederation called what happened “unacceptable” and confirmed the case has been referred to the disciplinary committee to investigate and take appropriate action under tournament rules.
