AS FAR secured their place in the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League after a goalless draw against hosts Al Ahly on Sunday evening at Cairo International Stadium, concluding the sixth and final round of Group B.
The Moroccan military side finished second in the group with nine points, behind Al Ahly, who topped the standings with 10 points. Young Africans came third with eight points, while JS Kabylie finished last with three points.
However, the celebration was tempered for AS FAR, as Mohammed Rabie Harimat received his third yellow card of the group stage.
This suspension rules him out of the first leg of the quarter-finals, delivering a major blow to the team’s midfield. Harimat’s presence is pivotal, serving as a stabilizing force in both defensive and offensive transitions.
In related developments, the African Football Confederation confirmed that the draws for the quarter-finals of both the Champions League and the Confederation Cup will take place tomorrow in Cairo.
The draw will determine the fixtures and the pathway for teams through the knockout stages.
The Champions League quarter-finals will feature Moroccan sides Raja Casablanca and Renaissance Berkane, alongside Egyptian clubs Al Ahly and Pyramids, Al Hilal, Mamelodi Sundowns, Stade Malien, and Esperance, setting the stage for competitive knockout encounters.
Meanwhile, the CAF Confederation Cup will see Moroccan representatives Wydad Athletic Club and Olympic Safi joined by Egypt’s Zamalek and Al-Masry, Algeria’s USM Alger and CR Belouizdad, and Congolese sides Maniema Union and Otoho d’Oyo, all awaiting the results of the draw to determine the upcoming matchups.
