Al-Ittihad Jeddah have officially disclosed the nature of the injury sustained by French winger of Malian origin Moussa Diaby.
Earlier on Monday, head coach Sergio Conceição announced Al-Ittihad’s squad for Tuesday’s clash against Al Sadd in the AFC Champions League. Diaby’s name was notably absent from the list, although the team welcomed back Dutch winger Steven Bergwijn.
In an official statement, the club explained the reason behind Diaby’s absence.
“Medical examinations conducted on first-team football player Moussa Diaby at the International Medical Center revealed that he suffered a bruise to his left hip, and as a result, the player did not leave with the team’s delegation heading to the Qatari capital, Doha,” the club said.
The statement from the dean further noted, “Diabi will begin a rehabilitation program under the supervision of the medical staff of the federation.”
Al-Ittihad had already secured qualification to the next round in the previous matchday after recording a dominant 7-0 victory over Al-Gharafa, taking their points tally to 12 and placing them fifth in the standings.
Meanwhile, Al Sadd sit eighth with eight points, occupying the final qualifying spot for the knockout stage, ahead of Sharjah on goal difference.
