Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior has revealed the belief instilled in Brazil’s squad by head coach Carlo Ancelotti, saying the Italian regularly tells him the Selecao are destined to lift the World Cup.
Ancelotti, who took charge of Brazil last summer after his spell at Real Madrid, has already guided the five-time champions to World Cup qualification. His influence, according to Vinicius, has transformed both the mood and mentality within the national setup.
“I’ve won many things, but I want to keep winning. We haven’t won a season, and that’s very difficult for us. This year, I hope to win our sixth star with Brazil,” Vinicius said in an interview with Ibai Llanos on YouTube.
The winger spoke warmly about his relationship with the veteran coach, crediting him with revitalising the squad. “He has changed the face of the team. We play better, we are happier and more relaxed. For me, his arrival is the best thing that has happened. He could be my grandfather.
“Whenever he calls me, he tells me we’re going to win the World Cup. He’s already speaking Portuguese; he’s learning it very quickly.”
Vinicius’ comments underline the confidence running through the Brazilian camp as they prepare for the global showpiece. With a squad blending established stars and emerging talent, expectations are once again high for a nation chasing a record-extending sixth title.
However, the 25-year-old is under no illusion about the scale of the challenge ahead. He singled out several heavyweights as Brazil’s main threats on the international stage.
“They have the best teams,” he said, referencing Portugal, Spain, France, and Argentina. “Spain always plays very well and has very high-quality players.”
