The Confederation of African Football (CAF), has swiftly condemned the violence that happened during the CAF Champions League final group stage clash between Al Ahly and FAR Rabat on Sunday.
The unsporting behavior exhibited at the Cairo International Stadium saw supporters of Al Ahly throw objects onto the pitch. Per reports, some FAR Rabat players were hit by bottles.
However, the continental football governing body has categorically condemned the unsporting behaviour during the match, while launching disciplinary proceedings to determine responsibility in accordance with regulatory provisions.
“The Confederation of African Football (CAF) strongly condemns the unacceptable incidents that occurred during the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League match between Al Ahly (Egypt) and ASFAR (Morocco), played in Cairo on Sunday 15 February 2026.
In accordance with its regulations, CAF has referred the case to the Disciplinary Board for investigation. Consequently, anyone found guilty will be subject to the sanctions provided for in the regulations.” A statement from ACF reads.
The Moroccan outfit held Al Ahly to a pulsating goalless draw at the Cairo international stadium, ensuring their qualification to the last eight of the competition.
The match was a tightly contested affair, with both teams creating scoring opportunities but failing to find the back of the net in a match that showcased solid defending and cautious attacking.
With this draw, both teams have qualified to the quarterfinal of the CAF’s elite club competition.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has set February 17, 2026 for the Champions League quarterfinal draw.
