Al Ahly winger Taher Mohamed says his outfit ultimate objective is to secure the CAF Champions League title this season.
The Egyptian giants and record Champions League holders are in the quarterfinal after securing top spot in Group B.
Al Ahly shared the spoils with Moroccan outfit FAR Rabat in the final round of the Champions League group stage clash, held at the Cairo International Stadium on Sunday.
The match was a tightly contested affair, with both teams creating scoring opportunities but failing to find the back of the net in a match that showcased solid defending and cautious attacking.
With this draw, both teams have qualified to the quarterfinal of the CAF’s elite club competition.
“We played well at the beginning of the match and we wanted to win and make the fans happy on our home ground. We had more than one opportunity, but luck was not on our side.”
“The most important thing is to qualify as group leader, and our goal is to win the championship.”
“Thorup was pleased with the performance and believes we played a strong game. He spoke to us about the missed opportunities and the need to focus on finishing attacks well,” he added.
“All the teams that qualified are strong, and we have previous experience against them. Our goal is to go step by step towards the title.”
Al Ahly secured top spot in Group B, accumulating 10 points, followed by FAR Rabat (9 points), with Young Africans and JS Kabylie finishing third and fourth respectively.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has set February 17, 2026 for the Champions League quarterfinal draw.
