Marc Guehi is free to represent Manchester City in the FA Cup this season, even though he has already played in the competition for Crystal Palace.
This is possible thanks to updated FA regulations introduced for the 2025/26 campaign, which now allow a player to feature for two different clubs in the same FA Cup season as long as they do not appear for both teams in the same round.
Under the previous rules, Guehi would have been cup tied and ineligible for City after Palace’s earlier exit to Macclesfield. The rule change has already had a tangible impact across English football, giving clubs more flexibility with mid season signings and loanees in knockout tournaments.
Manchester City have already benefited from the new framework once, with Antoine Semenyo featuring for them in the EFL Cup following his move from Bournemouth.
The revised regulations are set to play an increasingly significant role in squad planning, especially for teams chasing silverware on multiple fronts.
