2021 Africa Cup of Nations winning coach and current manager of Libya, Aliou Cisse has emerged as a top candidate for the Esperance de Tunis coaching job.
The Tunisian giants are currently without a substantive manager after parting ways with Maher Kanzari on Monday, February 9, 2026. The decision to sack Maher Kanzari stem from their defeat to Stade Malien in the CAF Champions League penultimate group stage clash at the weekend.
However, Esperance have stormed the market searching for a new tactician, with the former Senegal manager emerging as the frontrunner for the vacant job.
Currently sitting second in the 2025–26 Tunisian league, Espérance are eager to bring in a proven tactician capable of stabilizing the team and steering them back toward domestic and continental success, with Cisse reportedly being considered for the job.
Negotiations are reportedly ongoing between the two parties, with the 49-year-old Senegalese coach expressing interest in the club’s project.
Despite being under contract with the Libya national football team until June 30, 2027, Cisse is said to be drawn to the challenge of taking charge of one of North Africa’s most prestigious clubs.
The former coach of the Senegal national football team, widely respected for his work with the Taranga Lions, is believed to view this as an exciting new chapter in his managerial career.
Espérance are reportedly optimistic that an agreement can be reached, setting the stage for a potential high-profile appointment ahead of the club’s critical upcoming fixtures.
