Real Betis appear to be weighing their options regarding a permanent move for Moroccan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, who is currently on loan from Fenerbahçe, though the club has yet to make any formal statement.
Amrabat joined the Andalusian side last September on a season-long loan that included the possibility of a permanent transfer. Since arriving, he has featured in roughly a dozen matches across La Liga and European competitions, offering the defensive solidity and experience the club had hoped for.
Despite his contributions, reports indicate that Betis is reconsidering the deal. Financial concerns around the €9–10 million buyout fee, coupled with his recent injury struggles, have put the transfer in doubt. While the fee is manageable, it represents a significant commitment for Betis given the club’s wage structure and overall budget.
Fitness has emerged as the more pressing issue. Amrabat has battled a persistent right-ankle injury that affected his participation in the 2025 AFCON and sidelined him for key matches with Betis. After months of conservative treatment, he underwent ankle arthroscopy in the Netherlands this past January, leaving his recovery timeline uncertain.
The 29-year-old midfielder is now focused on returning late in the season, aiming not only to solidify his future at Betis but also to ensure full fitness ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he is expected to anchor Morocco’s midfield.
Betis’ concerns extend beyond the current season. Amrabat’s campaign has been hampered by repeated physical setbacks, including Europa League knocks and ongoing ankle issues, raising questions about his long-term durability. With the player approaching 30, the club is reportedly cautious about committing to a multi-year contract.
Should Betis decline the purchase option, Amrabat would return to Fenerbahçe, where his contract runs until 2028. However, a stay in Turkey may be brief, with Villarreal reportedly monitoring the situation and considering a move for the Moroccan international in the 2026 summer transfer window.
Ultimately, Amrabat’s late-season performances and recovery will likely determine whether he remains in Seville on a permanent basis.
