Moroccan goalkeeper Youssef El Mouti moves to terminate Olympique Safi contract over unpaid wages

Moroccan goalkeeper Youssef El Mouti has taken formal legal steps to terminate his contract with Olympique Safi after the club allegedly failed to settle his outstanding financial entitlements.

According to reports, the shot-stopper has exhausted all the procedures required under the regulations of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), paving the way for the next phase of the dispute.

El Mouti had previously served Olympique Safi with an official notice, granting the club a 15-day deadline to pay the money owed to him. However, the deadline reportedly expired without any payment being made or a satisfactory resolution reached.

With the grace period now over, the goalkeeper has decided to escalate the matter by initiating legal proceedings aimed at terminating his contract with the Botola Pro side.

El Mouti’s case has officially been referred to the FRMF’s Disputes Committee, which will now examine the circumstances surrounding the case and determine whether the player can legally end his agreement with the club.

The referral reportedly came after Olympique Safi failed to respond to the formal notification submitted by the player within the timeframe stipulated by the federation’s regulations.

Should the committee rule in El Mouti’s favour, the goalkeeper could become a free agent, allowing him to seek a new club ahead of the new season.

The dispute marks an unfortunate twist in what was expected to be a fresh chapter in the goalkeeper’s career.

El Mouti joined Olympique Safi during the last winter transfer window after completing a move from Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club. He signed a contract running for one and a half seasons as Safi sought to add experience and quality to their squad.

The move was viewed as an important acquisition for Olympique Safi, with the club banking on El Mouti’s experience at the highest level of Moroccan football to strengthen the team.

However, just months after his arrival, the relationship between the player and the club appears to have deteriorated over the alleged non-payment of contractual obligations.
