Ibrahim Hassan has dismissed suggestions that Egypt’s national team staff intervened in the dispute between Emam Ashour and his club, Al Ahly, insisting the Pharaohs played no role in the matter.
The Egyptian Football Association official made the remarks after Al Ahly announced a two-week suspension for Ashour following disciplinary action taken when the player was absent as the squad travelled to Tanzania for an African Champions League fixture.
Speaking on television, Hassan was unequivocal in distancing the national team from the issue.
He stressed that the situation was strictly between the player and his club and denied any involvement by Egypt’s technical staff.
Hassan also addressed Ashour’s current circumstances, describing him as a player of considerable ability.
He noted, however, that the midfielder can at times be affected by misinformation, which he said may disrupt his focus and performance.
While expressing regret over the controversy, Hassan recalled the efforts previously made to help Ashour rediscover his best form.
He made clear that the national team would continue to back the player, provided he shows discipline and commitment.
He added that any failure to apply himself fully could slow his development, urging Ashour to reassess his recent actions.
Hassan advised the player to apologise to Al Ahly and its supporters in order to move forward positively.
Al Ahly’s suspension of Ashour is due to conclude next Friday.
The player is expected to resume group training thereafter, having spent the disciplinary period working individually.
The episode has drawn attention to one of Egypt’s most prominent footballers, but Hassan’s comments sought to underline that responsibility for resolving the matter rests solely with the club and the player.
