Kaizer Chiefs Ladies extend unbeaten run to 10 matches with emphatic victory
Kaizer Chiefs Ladies strengthened their position at the top of the Gauteng Sasol Women’s Provincial League with a convincing 3-0 victory over North West University at Naturena Village on Saturday.
The result extended Amakhosazana’s unbeaten run to 10 matches, a sequence that has produced nine wins and one draw. During that period, the league leaders have scored 26 goals and kept eight clean sheets.
Kaizer Chiefs Ladies entered the match with confidence after an impressive 4-1 victory against Emmarentia Pirates the previous Saturday. They were unable to break through North West University’s determined defence before the interval, however, with the sides going into half-time level at 0-0.
The hosts returned from the break with greater attacking intent and eventually found the breakthrough seven minutes into the second half.
Unathi Mjijwa opened the scoring for Kaizer Chiefs Ladies in the 52nd minute, giving the home side the reward their second-half pressure had been seeking. North West University continued to resist, but the visitors’ efforts to remain in contention were undone late in the match.
Zanele Kunyamane doubled the advantage in the 83rd minute, putting Kaizer Chiefs Ladies firmly in control. Refilwe Maseko then completed the scoring just three minutes later, ensuring Unathi Mabena’s side collected all three points at home.
The victory leaves Kaizer Chiefs Ladies on 46 points from 20 matches. They have 10 league fixtures remaining as they continue to lead the Gauteng Sasol Women’s Provincial League standings.
The win also underlined the consistency of Mabena’s team during its current unbeaten sequence. Nine victories and one draw have kept Amakhosazana at the top, while their defensive record has been equally significant, with eight clean sheets across those 10 games.
For North West University, the match remained goalless until half-time before Kaizer Chiefs Ladies’ second-half attacking pressure settled the contest. Mjijwa’s opener eventually created the space for Kunyamane and Maseko to add further goals in the closing stages.
Kaizer Chiefs Ladies will now look to build on a run that has seen them maintain first place after 20 matches. Their latest result followed the 4-1 success against Emmarentia Pirates and continued a sequence in which they have combined regular victories with a strong defensive record.
