Legendary Italian football manager Fabio Capello has raised concerns over Mohamed Salah’s performance at Liverpool this season, stressing the Egyptian star appears short on confidence under coach Arne Slot.
The former African Footballer of the Year winner has struggled to replicate the performance that saw Liverpool secure the Premier League title under Arne Slot last season.
In the current campaign, the former Roma and Chelsea star has racked up six goals and provided six assists in 25 appearances across competitions for Liverpool, signaling a dip in form.
Prior to the AFCON 2025 tournament, the Egyptian star was relegated to the bench by Arne Slot, sparking numerous controversies in the team.
Speaking to ON Sport 2the former Real Madrid tactician, who saw Salah develop at Roma and Fiorentina has cited lack of confidence under Arne Slot for recent struggles.
“I saw Mohamed Salah develop at Fiorentina, Roma, and then Liverpool. It was a gradual growth, and I see in Salah currently a lack of confidence from Arne Slott, who is questioning him and wants to try something different with all these young players they have signed and who need to be integrated”
“Salah, who has always felt very important, now does not feel truly confident and important from the coach, but I think he is still the player who makes the difference. I don’t see any player at Liverpool who can offer anything more than what he has already offered.” He added.
Salah’s current contract with Liverpool expires in summer 2027, with reports suggesting a possible departure from the club in the upcoming summer window.
