Senegal international Malik Diouf has made a bold prediction ahead of the 2026 World Cup tournament, emphasizing his outfit ultimate objective is to secure the title.
The global showpiece, to be co-hosted by United States, Canada and Mexico will feature an expanded 48 countries, with Senegal securing one of Africa’s automatic nine slots for the tournament.
The 2025 AFCON champions are paired in Group I alongside European giants, France, and Norway. Senegal will open their World Cup account against their colonial masters before taking on the remaining opponents.
As the World Cup approaches, Diouf has made a bold prediction, stressing his outfit will go for the ultimate title.
“If the goal is just to reach the semi-finals, then it’s better to stay at home.” He told French network Canal+. “We are Senegal and we have the ability to win the World Cup, there is no room for discussion about that. As a great footballing nation, we will go for the title.”
“There are those who talk about the semi-finals, but for me this is unacceptable. I apologize, we will only go to win.” He concluded.
Morocco is the only African country to have reached the semifinal of the World Cup, surpassing the quarterfinals feat achieved by Senegal, Cameroon and Ghana.
