Karl Gameni Wassom: Defensive midfielder linked with move to Latvian side Auda

Karl Gameni Wassom has completed a loan move from Riga FC to FK Auda, rejoining the Kekava-based club in a deal that runs from 2026-02-04 to 2026-12-31. The Cameroon defensive midfielder switches Virsliga rivals on a temporary basis, with the transfer registered as a loan transfer and his parent club remaining Riga FC.

The move keeps the 21-year-old in Latvia’s top flight rather than taking him back to his home country, Cameroon, and continues a familiar path between the two clubs. According to the transfer record, Wassom had already joined Auda on loan from Riga earlier in the 24/25 campaign and briefly returned to Riga FC in mid-2025 following the end of that spell, before this latest agreement sent him back to Auda once again. At the conclusion of the current loan, he is scheduled to return to Riga FC on 2026-12-31, after which his longer-term situation could open the door to free-agent possibilities if no new contract is arranged.

The deal follows a sharp rise in Wassom’s valuation over the last two seasons. His market value has climbed from €50k while at FK Tukums 2000 to €125k at the same club, and later to €200k during his first loan at FK Auda. That €200k valuation has been maintained into his time at Riga FC, underlining how his development in Latvia’s Virsliga has been tracked steadily rather than in sudden spikes.

Born in Yaounde and standing 1.89 m tall, Wassom operates primarily as a defensive midfielder, listed as a midfield – defensive midfield specialist and preferring his right foot. His career in Latvia has progressed step by step: from an initial move from an unknown club to Riga FC II, then a loan stint at FK Tukums 2000, a recall to Riga FC II, promotion to Riga FC’s first team, and successive loans to FK Auda. Each move has kept him within the same league structure, giving him continuity of competition and environment while he adapts to European football far from Cameroon.

By remaining in the Virsliga, Wassom continues to build experience in Latvia’s top division rather than returning to domestic football in Cameroon. Previous spells in the league with Tukums, Riga FC II, Riga FC and FK Auda mean he is already accustomed to the tempo and physicality of the competition. The pattern of loans, including the confirmed current one, suggests Riga FC view Auda as a key development platform for the midfielder.

With no contract expiry date publicly specified beyond the confirmed end of the loan on 2026-12-31, there is a structural possibility that future negotiations, or a lack of them, could eventually lead to a free-agent scenario later in his career. For now, however, the facts are clear: Wassom is an Auda player on loan from Riga FC, tied to this arrangement from 2026-02-04 to 2026-12-31, continuing his professional journey in the Latvian Virsliga and adding another chapter to a young career that has so far unfolded entirely abroad from his native Cameroon.
