FIFA President Gianni Infantino believes Morocco have every reason to dream big at the FIFA World Cup after being asked whether the Atlas Lions can go all the way and lift football’s most prestigious trophy.
Responding to the question, Infantino pointed to Morocco’s remarkable rise in recent years, insisting the North African nation has already proven it belongs among the elite of world football.
“Morocco has shown that it has its place among the great nations in world football,” Infantino said in an Instagram video.
The FIFA boss referenced Morocco’s success across different levels, highlighting their triumph at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile as well as their historic run to the semi-finals of the most recent FIFA World Cup – the first African nation to reach that stage of the tournament.
According to Infantino, those achievements underline the steady development of Moroccan football and their ability to compete consistently with the best teams in the world.
“After winning the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile and reaching the semi-finals of the last FIFA World Cup, the team progressed to the point of competing with the best,” he added.
While stopping short of making a direct prediction, Infantino suggested Morocco should approach the expanded 2026 FIFA World Cup with confidence.
The tournament, set to be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, will be the biggest in World Cup history.
“They have every reason to be confident ahead of the biggest FIFA World Cup ever in 2026,” Infantino noted.
Morocco’s rise has been driven by sustained investment in youth development, infrastructure and elite-level competition, making them one of Africa’s strongest contenders as the continent eyes a historic first World Cup winner.
