French outfit Stade Rennes have announced the signing of young Moroccan striker Yasser Zabiri in the recently concluded transfer window.
Zabiri, who emerged as one of the fast-rising attackers last year joins the Ligue 1 club from Portuguese side Famalicao and has been handed the number 77 jersey at the club.
He gained prominence at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile, where he was the tournament’s top scorer and netted two goals in the final against Argentina, leading Morocco to victory.
Zabiri signed a three-year contract with the French club and is expected to play a huge role for the club this campaign.
However, Rennes CEO Arnaud Puel, has welcomed the Morocco youngster, highlighting that the management will closely monitor the player’s development, just as they have done with other Moroccan stars such as Aït Boudlal and Nayef Aguerd.
Puel noted Zabiri’s great potential and clear ambition, and praised the role of the Mohammed VI Football Academy in developing young players.
Louis Désiré, the club’s sporting director, stated that the signing of Moroccan striker Yasser Zabiri came after careful monitoring of the player’s performances in Portugal and the U-20 World Cup.
In this context, Désiré emphasized that Zabiri is a player capable of reading the game, possesses high physical strength, and demonstrates a professional attitude on the field. He added that the club aims to give him the opportunity to shine and excel with the team.
For his part, Yasser Zabiri expressed his happiness at joining Rennes, confirming that he carefully chose the French club after reviewing its football project and consulting with his former teammates. He said, “I know I’ve chosen the right place to develop, and I look forward to proving myself and continuing my development as a young player.”
It is worth noting that Yasser Zabiri was born in 2005 and spent nine years developing at the Mohammed VI Football Academy before embarking on his first professional experience.
