FCSB are monitoring U Cluj winger Issouf Macalou as the Bucharest club weigh up a possible move within Romania’s SuperLiga.
The 27-year-old, who holds dual nationality with Côte d’Ivoire and France, has been linked with a switch from Universitatea Cluj to the capital side, with the speculation emerging on 2 February. Transfermarkt currently lists the probability of the transfer as unclear (“?”), underlining that talks, if any, are at an early and uncertain stage.
Macalou’s market value is estimated at €650,000, a figure that would represent a relatively modest outlay for FCSB should they decide to formalise their interest. With no contract expiry date publicly listed for his deal at U Cluj, it is not yet evident whether he could become a free agent in the near future or would require a transfer fee.
The left-footed right winger only joined Universitatea Cluj from FC Sochaux-Montbéliard in January 2025 and has since seen his value rise sharply in Romania, climbing from €500,000 in June 2025 to €650,000 by December. Any move to FCSB would therefore keep him in the same league, potentially easing adaptation.
Born in Abidjan on 27 December 1998 and standing at 1.87m, Macalou has built a varied career across French football, featuring for AS Meudon, Sochaux’s B team, Louhans-Cuiseaux, Valenciennes, Le Mans and Red Star before returning to Sochaux and then heading to Cluj. That path has taken him through the French system into the Romanian top flight, where his performances have now attracted attention from one of the country’s biggest clubs.
No recent match details have been confirmed in the available data, but his rising valuation suggests consistent impact in SuperLiga. If FCSB choose to act on their interest and a deal is eventually agreed, the move could offer Macalou a larger stage, shaping both his reputation in Romania and his prospects for another step up later in his career.
