Aboubaka Soumahoro has completed a loan move from Hamburger SV to AS Saint-Étienne, joining the Ligue 2 side on a temporary deal from 2026-02-02 to 2026-06-30. The 20-year-old centre-back, valued at €1.80m, arrives in France on an active loan transfer and is scheduled to return to the German club at the end of the agreement.

The loan is officially registered as a “loan transfer” from Hamburg to Saint-Étienne, with the defender becoming part of the Ligue 2 squad while remaining under contract with the Bundesliga outfit. Once the loan expires on 2026-06-30, Soumahoro is set to go back to Hamburg under an “end of loan” arrangement, meaning there is no permanent option documented in the current deal and no indication of a transfer fee beyond the loan itself.

Soumahoro, a left-footed centre-back, links up with Saint-Étienne having already experienced top-level structures in both Germany and France. Born in Paris and holding nationalities for France and Cote d’Ivoire, he represents AS Saint-Étienne at club level in this spell, wearing the number 18 shirt and operating in his main role at the heart of defence.

His move to Hamburg came from Paris FC on a standard transfer, following a rapid rise through the French youth system. The defender progressed from Paris FC U17 to Paris FC U19, then to the Paris FC first team, before making the switch to Germany. Earlier in his development, he had also been part of the FC Paris Saint-Germain youth setup, underlining a pathway through some of the most competitive academies in French football.

Market value data shows how sharply his stock has risen. Assessed at €300,000 at Paris FC in early October 2024, his value climbed to €500,000 by December 2024. After moving to Hamburg, his market valuation increased further to €1.80m by March 2025 and remained at that level in subsequent assessments through mid and late 2025. That sustained valuation provides context for Saint-Étienne bringing him in on loan rather than on a permanent transfer.

Soumahoro’s club journey has already taken him across different levels and competitions: youth football with FC Paris Saint-Germain Youth, successive age groups at Paris FC, senior football at Paris FC, and then into the German system with Hamburger SV before this confirmed loan back to France. In this spell he will be competing in Ligue 2, giving him another professional environment abroad relative to his Ivorian nationality, while still operating in his birth country.

At 1.87m tall and naturally left-footed, he offers Saint-Étienne a profile suited to modern central defending, combining physical presence with the balance of a left-sided option in the back line. With his contractually defined loan window now opened and his return to Hamburg already scheduled for 2026-06-30, this period at Saint-Étienne will be a key audition both for his parent club and for any future suitors monitoring a young defender whose value and career trajectory have been on a steady upward curve.
