Auda have completed the signing of Gambian attacking midfielder Wally Fofana from Virsliga rivals BFC Daugavpils on a free transfer, with his contract at the Riga-based club running from 2026-02-01 to 2028-12-31. The 23-year-old arrives with a current market valuation of €175k and moves directly within the Latvian top flight after a rapid rise in value during his spell at Daugavpils.

The deal sees Auda secure a versatile, both‑footed creator who is listed primarily as an attacking midfielder but is capable of operating across the advanced midfield line. The move comes at the end of Fofana’s stint in Daugavpils, where he had become one of the club’s most valuable assets in the Virsliga before leaving at the expiry of his contract, allowing Auda to bring him in without a transfer fee.

Fofana’s switch continues a steady European journey that began in Belgium. After leaving Gambian club BK Milan FC, he joined Jong Westel, the reserve setup of Westerlo, in 2021. During his time there he was briefly loaned to Olympic Charleroi, also in Belgium, before returning from that spell at the end of the loan. His early years in Europe saw his market value set at €25k, reflecting his status as a developing prospect in the Belgian system.

A move to Latvia followed in 2024 when he signed for BFC Daugavpils, marking his first step into the Virsliga. It was in Daugavpils that his reputation grew significantly: his market value climbed from €25k to as high as €175k during 2024 and 2025, underlining how quickly he adapted to life in the Latvian top flight. Although there were fluctuations – with values recorded at €150k and €125k in between – he ultimately returned to the €175k mark ahead of his transfer to Auda.

Born on 04 May 2002 and standing 1.79m tall, Fofana represents The Gambia and continues the growing trend of Gambian talents carving careers abroad rather than in their domestic league. His move to Auda keeps him in the Virsliga rather than returning to his homeland, extending a pathway that has already taken him from West Africa to Belgium and now firmly established him in Latvia.

For Auda, the signing adds a creative option in the final third without the financial burden of a transfer fee, while for Daugavpils it marks the loss of a player who had become one of the most highly valued members of their squad. Fofana’s ability to operate with both feet and his experience across different European environments give Auda a flexible attacking profile as they build for upcoming campaigns.

The transfer also preserves Fofana’s status as a fully fledged expatriate professional, continuing his development in a European top division. Having already experienced football in Belgium’s lower tiers and Latvia’s top flight, his next chapter at Auda will be closely watched as an indicator of how far Gambian players can progress within European leagues. If he maintains the upward trajectory reflected in his market valuation, this move could prove a pivotal stage in consolidating his reputation and opening doors to even higher levels in the future.
