Nigeria international Frank Onyeka is on the verge of a new challenge, as he closes in on a move to English Championship club, Coventry City in the current winter transfer window.
The highly-rated midfielder is joining Coventry City on loan until the end of the season. The 28-year-old’s move from Brentford is expected to include an option for Coventry to make the deal permanent.
Onyeka’s playing time at Brentford this season has been extremely limited, featuring for just 88 minutes in the Premier League and starting only once under interim manager Keith Andrews.
Earlier in the transfer window, the midfielder was linked with moves to Valencia and Sheffield United, but Coventry City’s determination has seen them secure his services ahead of other suitors.
Brentford had initially been hesitant to let Onyeka leave, as they searched for a suitable replacement in midfield. However, Coventry’s persistence and clear plan for the player appear to have accelerated the negotiations, paving the way for a swift completion of the deal.
Onyeka could make his debut for Coventry City as soon as Wednesday, potentially featuring in the upcoming clash against Oxford United.
The move offers the Nigerian international a chance to regain regular playing time, rebuild confidence, and make an impact in the Championship before the end of the season.
