Contrary to reports suggesting that Egyptian international Emam Ashour’s fine at Al-Ahly amounted to 1.5 million Egyptian pounds, the club’s record for the highest financial penalty was slapped at former defender Ibrahim Saeed.
Back in 2004, Saeed was slapped with a staggering 1,558,500 EGP fine after announcing his transfer to Zamalek and rejecting all offers from professional Arab leagues, which Al-Ahly had presented in an effort to gain compensation before his move to their historic rivals.
The club later secured the fine through a ruling by the Disciplinary Committee of the Egyptian Football Association, making it the heaviest in Red Castle history.
Emam Ashour ranks second on the list. The midfielder was recently penalized for refusing to travel with the team to Tanzania for a scheduled match.
Following the incident, Ashour resumed individual training at Al-Ahly after submitting a formal apology to the club’s management and fans, citing illness for his absence and acknowledging his failure to respond to communications.
