Pyramids FC goalkeeper Ahmed El Shenawy has warned of a challenging encounter against Morocco’s RS Berkane, recalling the intensity of their previous clashes in both the African Super Cup and the Champions League group stage.
“Every match is calculated, and mistakes are costly,” El Shenawy said during a press conference. “Both teams respect each other as champions, and neither will accept defeat easily.”
The two sides will meet at the Air Defense Stadium on Sunday at 6 p.m. for the fourth round of the African Champions League.
Reflecting on Pyramids’ recent success, El Shenawy highlighted last year’s unexpected triumph in the African Cup.
“No one in Africa predicted that Pyramids would lift the title, but with patience, determination, and the backing of our management and technical staff, we achieved it. Our goal now is to repeat that success and defend our championship,” he said, noting that the team is performing strongly in the current Champions League and is close to securing a spot in the next round.
El Shenawy also stressed that the club’s accomplishments—winning the Champions League, African Super Cup, and three continental titles—are often underappreciated.
“These victories don’t add pressure to our players; instead, they make competitors think twice about facing the African champion, especially at home. This motivates Pyramids to remain among Africa’s elite and strive to win again,” he added.
Acknowledging recent domestic setbacks, the goalkeeper admitted the team has faced a mix of bad luck and fatigue, but insisted it does not reflect complacency.
“We must learn from the last two league matches. There is no alternative but to win the upcoming games, as our dream is to claim the league title this season, while we await the final decision regarding last year’s championship,” El Shenawy concluded.
