Marwan Ateya: Al Ahly’s Egypt midfielder linked with Al-Fayha move

Egypt midfielder Marwan Ateya of Al Ahly is being linked with a move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Fayha as the Riyadh-based club explore options to reinforce their defensive midfield this summer.

The 27-year-old, who operates primarily as a holding midfielder, is under contract with the Cairo giants until 30 June 2029, meaning Al-Fayha would need to negotiate a fee with Al Ahly if they decide to formalise their interest. Ateya is currently valued at around €4m and remains a central part of the squad that has dominated domestic and continental competitions in recent seasons.

Ateya has extensive top-flight experience, with more than 160 Premier League appearances and over 11,000 minutes played, as well as regular involvement in the CAF Champions League. He further enhanced his reputation on the international stage at the 2026 World Cup, starting the majority of Egypt’s matches and contributing an assist across five appearances.

Since joining Al Ahly from Ittihad Alexandria in January 2023, Ateya has been part of a side that has swept multiple titles, including back-to-back CAF Champions League triumphs in 2022–23 and 2023–24. He was also named Player of the Tournament in the 2025–26 campaign as Al Ahly added further silverware.

Al-Fayha’s interest comes at a time when Saudi Pro League clubs continue to look towards North Africa for proven talent, but with Ateya tied to a long-term deal and firmly established at Al Ahly, any potential move is expected to hinge on whether the Egyptian champions are prepared to sanction the departure of one of their first-choice midfielders.
