Spanish outfit, Atletico Madrid have intensified efforts to sign Nigeria international Ademola Lookman before the closure of the winter transfer.
The Madrid-based outfit had wanted to sign the attacker from attacker last summer, but the move fell through as Liverpool failed to agree a deal with the Italian club.
Following Leon Goretzka’s decision not to leave Bayern Munich until summer, Atletico Madrid have shifted focus to securing the signature of Lookman, who remains their top priority.
Competition is strong, with Fenerbahce pushing hard for Lookman in the current window. Despite closing in on a move to the Turkish outfit, Atletico seeks to do everything possible to capture Lookman at the expense of the Turkish club.
Lookman has endured a relatively quiet start to the current campaign, registering three goals and two assists in 19 outings across all competitions.
With his contract due to expire at the end of next season, Atalanta could be under pressure to cash in rather than risk losing him for a reduced fee.
The forward enjoyed an amazing Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria, scoring three goals and delivering four assists in seven games, as the Super Eagles finished third at the end of the tournament in Morocco.
