The Uruguay national team has submitted a request to face Morocco in an international friendly as both sides step up preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to be hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.

According to a source, the Uruguayan Football Association has proposed that the match be staged in the Spanish capital, Madrid, during the March international window.

The friendly is seen as an opportunity for both teams to fine-tune their squads against high-level opposition ahead of the global showpiece.

The report noted that the Royal Moroccan Football Federation has already presented the proposal to national team head coach Walid Regragui and is currently awaiting his technical assessment before taking a final decision on the request.

Morocco have been drawn into Group C of the 2026 World Cup, where they will face Brazil, Scotland and Haiti in what promises to be a challenging group. Uruguay, on the other hand, were placed in Group H alongside Spain, Saudi Arabia and Cape Verde, setting up a competitive path to the knockout stages.

If confirmed, the potential Madrid showdown would offer a valuable test for both sides as they assess their readiness for the World Cup finals.
