Bayern Munich have identified Italian-born defender of Nigerian descent Honest Ahanor as a potential addition to their squad as the German giants continue to monitor options to strengthen their defence.
With uncertainty surrounding the futures of Dayot Upamecano and Min-jae Kim, Bayern have intensified their search for reinforcements and shifted part of their focus toward emerging young talents across Europe.
Among those now on the club’s radar is Atalanta Bergamo youngster Ahanor, who has impressed with his rapid development.
Reports suggest Bayern are keen on the 17-year-old left-footed defender and are considering a move that could be valued between 50 and 65 million euros.
The Bavarians’ scouting department has been tracking Ahanor for some time, although they face stiff competition from several other top European clubs also monitoring his progress.
Ahanor made his Serie A debut last season and has since cemented his place in Atalanta’s starting lineup, starting the club’s last five league matches.
His rise has been swift, with the teenager already recording 19 appearances in all competitions, including five outings in the UEFA Champions League, an impressive return at such a young age.
Bayern’s interest in Ahanor aligns with their broader strategy of investing in youthful defensive talent.
The club has previously shown similar intent with players such as Luka Vuskovic of Hamburger SV, Jérémy Jacquet from Stade Rennes, Tiago Gabriel of US Lecce and Tylel Tati of FC Nantes, as they look to build a strong backline for the future.
