Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed Dutch-Ghanaian defender Jeremie Frimpong will be out of action for a period of time following an injury setback in the sides Champions League clash against Qarabag FK.
Frimpong, who joined the Reds last summer was forced off with an injury as the Premier League giants cruised to a resounding 6-0 victory over the Azerbaijani outfit in the final round of the group phase on Wednesday night.
The free-scoring Dutch-Ghanaian full-back had to be subbed off after just four minutes into the match, with Wataru Endo replacing him.
Speaking after the match, Arne Slot disclosed the enterprising defender will be out of action for a period of time, considering the nature of the injury he sustained.
“Frimpong will be out for a period of time, yes. We as a club always make smart decisions. We look at the long term, we don’t have 4 RBs and 12 number 9s” he said.
Despite the early setback, the five-time Champions League holders walloped their opponent, with Mohammed Salah, Hugo Ekitike, Federico Chiesa, Florian Wirtz and Alexis Mac Allister’s brace ensuring victory for the host.
Liverpool finished third in the Champions League stage with 18 points, ensuring they secure automatic qualification to the knockout stage of the competition.
Frimpong has been battling injuries since joining Liverpool, limiting his game at the Premier League powerhouse. He arrived with a huge ambition, but has yet to hit the ground running for the Reds.
The 25-year-old pacey full-back has made 19 appearances across competitions for Liverpool, scoring two goals and delivering an assist.
