Morocco international winger Eliesse Ben Seghir is set to spend time on the sidelines following an injury setback, his club Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed.
The 20-year-old attacker sustained a ligament injury to his left ankle shortly before the Africa Cup of Nations final, where Morocco were narrowly defeated by Senegal after extra time.
Despite the injury, the winger was part of the squad during the closing stages of the tournament, which may have compounded the issues.
The injury requires careful management, with Leverkusen’s medical department expected to closely monitor his condition. The Moroccan international will undergo a specialized treatment and rehabilitation programme in the coming weeks, as the club works to ensure a complete recovery before he returns to competitive action.
“His condition is being closely followed by our medical staff,” the club noted, expressing optimism that the player can make a swift but safe return once he has fully recovered.
The winger only joined Bayer Leverkusen from AS Monaco at the end of last summer’s transfer window, arriving with high expectations following his promising performances in Ligue 1.
However, his time in Germany has so far been challenging, with limited appearances since the move, partly due to fitness issues and competition for places within the squad.
The recent setback represents another hurdle in what has been an interrupted start to life at Leverkusen for the Moroccan midfielder, who will now be focused on regaining full fitness and pushing for a stronger second half of the season once he returns to the pitch.
