Egyptian football powerhouse Al Ahly have taken a firm stance on Egyptian international, Mohamed El Shenawy, blocking the sale of the goalkeeper in the winter transfer window.
With El Shenawy being linked to offers abroad, the Egyptian giants has moved to close the file on the shot stopper as the club aimed at protecting the group’s focus and continuing to compete for championships.
The enterprising shot stopper was initially linked with a move to Turkish outfit Gaziantep, but Al Ahly did not receive any official offer, which made it easier to make the decision internally not to discuss the idea of leaving at the moment.
The decision not to transfer the international goalkeeper came as part of commitment to providing stability within the team, as the team aim to regain the CAF Champions League title and also maintaining strong competition in the Premier League.
Besides, Al Ahly coach Jess Thorup stressed the need to keep the key players, most notably El-Shenawy, due to his technical value and great experience within the dressing room.
Despite missing certain matches, his leadership role and experience remain a crucial element in the team’s journey during the next stage.
Al Ahly have already informed El-Shenawy about the decision to keep him at the club, with the goalkeeper, where he embraced the decision, despite receiving some offers from Gulf and European clubs recently.
