The Confederation of African Football will announce its decision on the disciplinary case arising from the AFCON 2025 final involving Morocco and Senegalwithin 48 hours, Africasoccer can report.
The Senegalese Football Federation revealed in an official statement that it appeared before CAF’s disciplinary committee on Tuesday.
The hearing followed official match reports that referenced incidents of fan violence and alleged unsportsmanlike conduct by members of the Senegalese team, with the situation heightened by pressure from the Moroccan federation for firm action.
Senegal was represented at the hearing by its Secretary General, accompanied by legal adviser Sidiou Diagne. The committee also heard testimony from head coach Pape Thiaw, along with players Ismaila Sarr and Eliman Ndiaye, all of whom responded to questions and presented their account of events.
The Royal Moroccan Football Federation had earlier submitted a formal complaint, pointing to what it described as “serious incidents that undermined the spirit of fair play.”
CAF’s disciplinary body has since confirmed that the matter has been closed for deliberation.
Emphasising the urgency of the case, the chair of the committee stated that “a final decision will be communicated within 48 hours,” underlining CAF’s intention to bring the issue to a swift conclusion.
The case stems from scenes of disorder and violent clashes that marred the AFCON final, which Morocco argues damaged the image and integrity of the competition. Depending on the outcome, the ruling could lead to penalties ranging from fines and suspensions to more severe sanctions.
Both federations are now awaiting the verdict. In its statement, Senegal stressed confidence in its defence, noting that “We have presented our position with transparency and respect for the process.”
Morocco, on the other hand, continues to maintain that accountability is necessary to safeguard the credibility of African football.
CAF’s decision, expected within the next two days, will ultimately determine whether the AFCON 2025 final is remembered for its footballing spectacle or overshadowed by disciplinary consequences.
