Egyptian defender Mohamed Abdelmonem has announced his return to training with French side Nice after a long absence caused by a cruciate ligament injury suffered late last season.

Sharing photos of his warm reception from teammates at today’s session, he accompanied them with an emotional, extended message on social media.

Abdelmonem revealed that this spell was “the hardest period” of his life, explaining that the injury plunged him into depression and anxiety about his future. He admitted it forced him to see his career differently from the dreams he had imagined, but insisted he never let go of his ambition and was determined to overcome every difficult stage.

The former Al Ahly player said he felt an overwhelming amount of love, sympathy and support after the injury, which both affected him emotionally and increased his sense of responsibility towards those who believe in him. He spoke of growing closer to God, finding peace and gratitude, and realising that real success is not only trophies but also strong faith and sincere people around you.

Abdelmonem concluded by thanking everyone who remembered him, sent a message or prayed for him, saying their presence gives deeper meaning to life’s best moments and makes them last longer in the heart.
